We Want Our Students to Love Reading!
Having Choice in their selection is important and Extra Reading Fluency Practice is helpful too! In order to understand what they read, children must be able to read fluently whether they are reading aloud or silently. We encourage your child to Read 10 minutes each night if possible to help with fluency. INDEPENDENT READING (silent or aloud) and READING WITH an experienced reader in the home (choral reading) are both great options! Choral reading allows your child to listen to an Experienced Reading Model - this can be very helpful practice for expression, rhythm, rate, rereading and decoding, as well as SHOWING the enjoyment of reading! You are their first and best teacher -READING anything TO THEM is great practice too!
"At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child's success is the positive involvement of parents."
